CORFU. Municipal crews have already replaced the lamps in most of Corfu Town and will be doing the same in the Municipality districts.

Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality is gradually replacing the existing incandescent lamps with LED lamps. This will lead to improved street lighting, lower operational costs and consumption of much less energy.

Municipal crews have already replaced the lamps in most of Corfu Town and will be doing the same in the Municipality districts.

Priority was given to the main streets in the town, where lighting has often been problematic - short-circuiting due to age and a lot of elements are completely destroyed.

Following replacement of lamps in town the crews have moved on to Tria Gefyra, Athanasiou Politi, Milt. Margariti as far as the Gika junction and will then proceed to replace lighting in the villages in the Municipal districts.

The Deputy Mayor for Everyday Life Haris Yiotis said, "We are making a big effort as we consider that it will improve the situation greatly - don't forget, this is a popular tourist destination. With the replacement of the lamps the network is being modernised, we save resources and protect the environment in line with European standards. We are working methodically and I believe that our goal of reducing the consumption of energy in the Municipality will be achieved and we will thus provide better services and quality of life for residents and visitors."
