CORFU. The Inspectorate of Antiquities is organising a workshop on September 24.
The workshop 'Traditional boat building techniques and small fishing boat maintenance' is part of the territorial cooperation programme Interreg V-A Greece-Italy 2014-2020 'Fisheries and Cultural Heritage, Identity and Participated Societies' ('Fish & Chips' for short) and will be taking place at Petriti harbour, South Corfu on 24 September at 17:00.
The aim of the workshop is to demonstrate traditional boat building techniques and the conservation of the cultural heritage in the Corfu's fishing areas. The techniques of constructing traditional fishing vessels will be presented and the importance of the historical shipwright profession.
Corfu Inspectorate of Antiquities has also taken on the organisation of two meetings to discuss the setting up of a Local Support Group to create a strategy for cross-border development of the fishing culture in the South Corfu region.
For reasons of safety and proper distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 those interested in taking part will have to apply online at [email protected] by Wednesday 23 September.
Participation will be on a first come, first served basis and according to the numbers allowed at meetings. The wearing of a mask will be mandatory and proper distancing will be adhered to.
