Restoration of Annunziata bell tower going ahead

CORFU. The contractor for the renovation work has now set up in dilapidated monument.
The Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality announced that the contractor is now in place in the bell tower and that restoration work will begin immediately. According to the contract, the work on restoring the Evaggelistrias Church bell tower will take 18 months. The Ministry for Culture & Sport is responsible for the project and the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality will monitor the work and provide any support needed.
The Deputy Mayor for Technical Works had recently announced the contract work but mentioned that were was some delay due to the 'occupation' of the basement - a problem which seems to have been resolved.
Mayor Meropi Ydraiou made a short statement saying: "I would like to express my satisfaction that the restoration work on the Annunziata bell tower is going ahead. I hope that the work will be completed soon and that this monument, which has such cultural and historical significance for Corfu, will be saved."
