CORFU. Corfiot & Diapontian Mayor Meropi Ydraiou gave a press conference to discuss the main points from her meeting with Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.
She listed in order of importance the Art Cafe, the British Hospital in the Old Fortress and a Municipal tax on arrivals at the airport and port. Other significant points are the re-establishment of a Management Body for the Old Town and the creation of new Urban Regulations for the Old Town.
Regarding the Art Cafe in the People's Garden, the Minister agreed to transfer the management to the Municipality with an agreement that would include strict conditions for quality and sustainability.
With regard to new Urban Regulations for the Old Town, the Mayor said that the UNESCO Heritage Monument would have a say in its own affairs. Efforts will be made to combine harmoniously the daily lives of the residents with business activities with both sides regulating themselves in a way that would maintain the life of the town.
