Plenty of Greek news sites have been showing Corfu all day today (August is the silly season, after all...) with Giorgos Kontarinis' photos for the agency Eurokinissi.
Following the stories about rubbish, abuse in the kitchen of a well-known Corfiot's restaurant and Achilles' missing arrow the latest story from Corfu is the table in the sea.
A businessman in Roda, North Corfu found a new way to attract customers. He took a table, four chairs and two umbrellas and placed them IN the sea ... for select customers!
Not in the sand with the waves lapping on the shore...that's far too banal! IN the sea. We're a cut above everyone else!
"Are those in Bali and Indonesia who build wooden jetties into the sea and private cottages for tourists in the ocean cleverer than us?" the North Corfu restauranteur probably thought - a man with plenty of imagination but not too much environmental sensitivity. One wonders who would like to look at this and who would want to eat here.
But, of course, whoever watched the ITV series "The Durrells" - and there are viewers all over the world - know that the Durrell family placed a table in the sea!
