Up to a tripling of charges in hospitality industry!
CORFU. What is foreseen for restaurants and hotels. The processing of the new price list for waste lasted three months.
The new pricing for waste-related charges is expected to cause a stir. It has essentially been announced today, with the publication of an article by the Central Corfu mayor, Stefanos Poulimenos, who describes the dire situation the municipality's economy has found itself in. He highlights two main reasons: the stagnation of charges for many years, despite the requirement to draw up an annual balance sheet and adjust prices accordingly - something that has never happened! Also, the financial strain caused by the obligation to transport waste outside Corfu for at least four to five more years, and in any case, until the waste treatment plant is completed and operational.
Proposals are expected to be presented to the municipal committee, which include a tripling of charges for restaurants and a charge of 10 euros per square metre for hotel units. The preparation of the new price list began at the end of May and will be discussed in a municipal council meeting so that it can be implemented as soon as possible.
