CORFU. A cornucopia of colours, sounds and dance delighted passersby on Friday night as the traditional groups passed through the streets of the historic centre.

The Serbian, Ukrainian, Pontian and, of course, Corfu dancers delighted all those present. The 22nd Sinies International Dance Festival, organised by Sinies Educational and Cultural Society, is this year dedicated to the memory of the Pontian genocide 100 years ago.

On Thursday the Sinies and Kavalouri Choirs opened the Festival in San Stefanos, Sinies and there was also a small parade with the foreign dance groups.

On Friday there was a courtesy visit to the Town Hall to meet with the Mayor for a welcome and exchange of gifts. There then followed a parade through the town to the Palace Colonnade for the official start of the Festival.

The second day's event is being held on Saturday 20th at 21:00 at Sinies Olive Press. Admission is free.
