CORFU. Association requests that tourism professionals make efforts to deal with the problem.
Open letter from Corfu Tourist Coach Owners Association.
"We would like to express our displeasure at the degradation of our airport and the bad publicity it has had recently. From the moment we first come in contact with our customers we always try to create the best possible impression but we are forced to try and justify the lack of proper services at Ioannis Capodistrias Airport.
1. Meeting and greeting customers doesn't happen in the main building, where all the space has been taken up with concessions, but on benches outside - making it more like an open-air market than an airport.
2. The facility isn't at all friendly to those with special needs - there are no ramps from the pavement to the pedestrian crossings and no seating for the elderly.
3. The facility needs to be made more presentable. How much would it cost to cut the grass, prune the trees on the exit road and paint the pavement?
4. The ongoing work in the middle of the tourist season makes the problems even worse.
We would like to ask Fraport to deal with the problems and immediately arrange that quality services be provided to passengers and that the work is completed as soon as possible.
We would also like to say that if it wants more space in addition to what is included in the contract with the Greek State then it should request it from the official Greek authorities who are the only ones legally entitled to administer public property and not from private individuals who can only carry out negotiations for their own property.
Finally, we call on all Corfu bodies, especially tourism professionals who are truly concerned - such as the Hoteliers' Association, the Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners, the Tourist Guides' Association and the taxis - to turn their attention to this problem as it is something that concerns us all."
