CORFU. Lefkimmi residents΄ intended demonstration with banners outside the Achilleion Palace was nipped in the bud.
Police blocked off all access to the Achilleion Palace, where there was a special event in honour of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, and diverted traffic to other roads.
Resident from the south of the island, who had intended to demonstrate against the Lefkimmi landfill outside the Achilleion Palace, held a sit-down demonstration at the Benitses crossroads. When the protestors started to leave at about 23:00 the road opened up again.
