Tension between Temploni residents and work contractors

CORFU. Residents were alerted when a contractor΄s refuse truck entered the Temploni landfill this morning and emptied the rubbish onto the mountain of waste at Unit 3, which residents had wanted to blockade.
In the meantime, residents had rushed to the gate and prevented the truck from leaving.
After strong words had been exchanged and, according to locals, the driver claimed that he didn't know anything about the blockade of the unit, he was allowed to leave.
The same happened when the next - smaller - truck came. After emptying its load, it was stopped at the exit and prevented from leaving.
The residents are continuing their protest action and the gates are now closed with a police presence of four patrol cars and an interrogation van in the area.
According to the President of Temploni Cultural Society, Ms Papanikolopoulou, the local authorities have requested from the Prosecutor that anyone blocking the operation of the facility should be arrested.
