CORFU.The lack of positive response and support from the local and regional authorities has forced organizers to suspend the upcoming Animation Festival. The organizing committee made the following announcement: “The Βe there! Corfu Animation Festival regrets to announce the suspension of the scheduled April 2018 event, due solely to lack of funding.
Since the first festival in April 2011, we have aimed to produce and disseminate the contemporary cultural product and new artistic trends and pioneers in the field of animation. In that time we have had many award-winning participants – from Greece and abroad – over 180 films at each festival, retrospectives, collaborations, special features, educational workshops and have participated in all the international animation networks. All of this has led to the promotion of Corfu on the international stage and is reflected in the fact that the Be there! Corfu Animation Festival was twice included in the best cultural festivals in Europe (EFFE, Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe 2015-16 and 2017-18).
Since its inception, the festival has regularly sought the collaboration and support of local and regional authorities and organizations. This positive collaboration is a key factor and indispensable in any international competitive festival with this reach. This lack of positive response has forced the festival (which is mostly self-funding) to suspend the upcoming event. Any other attempt to proceed with the event in these conditions would lead to a downgrading of the artistic and organizational quality of the festival and its future progress.
The Be there! Corfu Animation Festival would like to give warm thanks to all its partners, sponsors, supporters, collaborators, members of the organizing committee and volunteers for their brilliant cooperation up to now. We would also like to announce that, for the same reasons, we will be unable to participate in any other promotional events and efforts in the coming year.”
