Sea traffic ban in Corfu for drone light show

CORFU. Emergency safety measures announced by the Central Port Authority for the International Ionian Islands Philharmonic Bands Festival on Saturday, 19 September, from 19:00 to 23:00.

An emergency decision banning maritime traffic has been issued by the Central Port Authority of Corfu, under Central Port Authority Master Theodoros Soukaras, as part of security and safety measures for the staging of the spectacular “Drone Light Show”, which is being held as part of the International Ionian Islands Philharmonic Bands Festival.

The ban will be in effect on Saturday, 19 September, from 19:00 to 23:00.

During these hours, navigation, passage, anchoring and approach by any motorised or non-motorised watercraft (vessels, boats, water sports equipment, etc.) will be prohibited in the sea area in front of Garitsa Bay / Spianada, east of the Old Fortress, where the drones’ aerial performance will take place.

The designated area is defined by the imaginary rectangle formed by the following geographical coordinates:

Strict penalties for offenders

The Central Port Authority of Corfu is urging boat owners and skippers to exercise particular caution, stressing that anyone violating the Decision, irrespective of any concurrent criminal or civil liability, will be subject to the administrative sanctions provided for under Article 157 of the Code of Public Maritime Law (Legislative Decree 187/1973, as amended and currently in force).
