CORFU. A total of 115 sterilisations were carried out, with more than 70 stray animals receiving treatment.

(Central Corfu Municipality) The voluntary initiative providing medical care and sterilisation for stray cats on the island of Othoni was successfully completed once again this year.

As part of the initiative, a total of 115 sterilisations were carried out, while more than 70 treatments were provided to stray animals, contributing to their welfare and population control.

The initiative was implemented for yet another year thanks to the valuable contribution of volunteers and the island’s residents. Special mention should be made of the members of the volunteer group “Monopatia Othoniotika,” who demonstrated remarkable sensitivity and dedication.

Beyond the ongoing care of stray animals, they played a crucial role in organising the initiative, covering accommodation and meal expenses for visiting volunteers, as well as providing medical supplies and the necessary facilities for carrying out the activities.

Special thanks are extended to:

  • Ilias Spyrou

  • Maurizio Elia

  • Maria–Louisa Guido

  • Marinella Giovine

  • Spyros Mastoras

  • Massimo Konstantini

Warm thanks also to the volunteers from Thessaloniki, who travelled at their own expense, offering their time and scientific expertise to support the initiative.

Particular recognition is given to:

  • Eleftherios Gallidis, Veterinarian

  • Ismini Papathanasiou, member of the animal welfare organisation Hopeland and of the five-member committee of the Municipality of Thermi for the management of stray animals

  • Maria Emmanouilidou, member of the Animal Welfare Association of Panorama, Thessaloniki

The contribution of all involved stands as an example of volunteerism in support of animal protection.
