Municipal Theatre closes – All performances suspended
CORFU. The decision was taken after a young schoolgirl was injured following the end of a dance performance on Saturday afternoon, March 14.
The Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, Stefanos Poulimenos, decided this afternoon to close the Municipal Theatre in its entirety starting tonight, until further notice, and to suspend all scheduled performances.
The decision followed a meeting with municipal officials and the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Nikos Vradis.
The move came after a young schoolgirl was injured at the end of a dance performance on Saturday afternoon, March 14, and also due to long-standing problems that have been recorded for many years in the operation of the Municipal Theatre.
About two months ago the theatre’s closure had already been scheduled for the end of April 2026 in order to carry out essential works related to the safety, functionality, and hygiene of the building.
A press conference on the development will be held on Tuesday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Marasleio Town Hall.
