Storm causes serious damage to graves in First Cemetery

Corfu is facing widespread and serious problems in the early hours of Thursday, as a large storm front is hitting the island, bringing torrential rainfall for the third consecutive day.
Serious damage at the First Cemetery
Some of the most serious damage has been at the town's First Cemetery. The heavy rains have caused major destruction, especially in front of the church gate and further down on the steps. Many areas have been damaged, including several graves, creating a scene of devastation.
Meanwhile, the heavy rainfall has caused serious problems in the power supply network. Many areas of Corfu have been without electricity since yesterday, as the island is being tested by severe weather conditions. DEDDIE crews are on alert, making superhuman efforts to restore service.”
