Power supply being restored, says DEDDIE
CORFU. Water supply has also been affected due to power outages at municipal pumping stations.
At any moment (2:30 PM, Monday 12/1), according to DEDDIE, the electricity supply is expected to be restored, which had been interrupted across a large part of the island. The outages are due to two planned actions: one affecting the area from Benitses to the outskirts of the town (Kastania Viros), and the other from Paleokastritsa to Sidari. A side effect of the power outages is also the disruption of the water supply due to the shutdown of pumping stations (e.g., in the Viros area).
Meanwhile, in light of the power outages, Corfu MP Dimitris Biangis submitted a parliamentary question regarding mainly the staffing shortages at DEDDIE. He stated: “…it is unacceptable for the Risk Assessment Committee to convene in anticipation of worsening weather conditions, for Civil Protection messages to be sent to citizens via ‘112’, while at the same time the planning for handling crises in the energy network remains inadequate, with all the consequences that entails for local communities.”
The MP is calling for reinforcement of DEDDIE Corfu with the necessary technical personnel, as well as proper planning and coordination of the relevant services to promptly address serious problems in the electricity network during crises.
