Epiphany celebration and Blessing of the Waters
CORFU. The Cross was retrieved by Christos Zouzos, who proudly wished health and smiles to everyone. The Archbishop of Corfu rewarded him with a golden cross.
The Blessing of the Waters was held once again this year at the Old Port on Tuesday, 6th January, where a large crowd gathered to watch the brave divers who plunged in to retrieve the Cross.
The Divine Liturgy was held first at the Holy Metropolitan Church, followed by a procession to “Café Gyali.” Subsequently, the Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos, and the Diapontia Islands, Nektarios, performed the Blessing with the immersion of the Holy Cross into the sea, in commemoration of the Baptism of Jesus Christ in the River Jordan by Saint John the Baptist. Despite the unsettled weather, strong winds, and cold, many brave divers plunged in to retrieve the Cross.
Christos Zouzos retrieved the Cross and proudly wished health and smiles to everyone. The Archbishop of Corfu rewarded him with a golden cross.
