Greek airspace shut down
ATHENS. Services partially restored after 12:00 p.m.
The disruption to all flights to and from all Greek airports was caused by a telecommunications problem that crippled the Athens FIR. According to a notice issued by the Special Services at 10:00 a.m. Greek time on Sunday, it was impossible for any flight to operate to or from Greek airports.
The notice was originally due to remain in effect until 4:00 p.m. Greek time. However, the partial restoration of communications led to the issuance of a new notice, which refers to the possibility of limited arrivals and departures and remains in force until further notice.
The map published is indicative of the problem that arose, showing the effective shutdown of Greek airspace.
