Man arrested for municipal council bomb hoax
CORFU. A Greek national was quickly identified and arrested after he called in a report about placing an explosive device in a building in Corfu.
Police officers immediately conducted a preliminary inquiry following a phone report, during the evening hours of December 1, regarding the placement of an explosive device in the building that houses the Regional Unit of Corfu, located in the town centre.
Upon receiving the information, the prescribed security and operational protocols were implemented without delay, and specialised personnel carried out a thorough inspection of the premises, during which no object or device was found.
Through the preliminary investigation, a 53-year-old Greek national was identified as the individual who made the phone call. A case file was formed against him for threatening to commit criminal acts, and a mobile phone was found in his possession and seized.
The arrested man was taken to appear before the Corfu Misdemeanor Prosecutor.
