CORFU. The modest ceremony, honouring all those who fought for the country’s independence, marked the beginning of the events in the town.
In an atmosphere of emotion and respect, the wreath-laying ceremony took place on Monday morning at the Heroes’ Monument, as part of the celebrations for the national anniversary of October 28, 1940.
The Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Yiannis Trepeklis, paid tribute to the fighters for freedom by laying a wreath, followed by pupils from Corfu primary, junior high, and high schools.
The modest ceremony, honouring all those who fought for the country’s independence, marked the beginning of the events in the town.
