IOANNINA. The Epirus Waste Management Authority issued a statement following the issue that arose, clarifying that there is no question of any sanitary landfill disposal taking place at local waste sites.

According to reports, the recipients of the waste are located in various parts of Greece — possibly including Epirus — as the volume is substantial and the capacity of the facilities is limited.
The Epirus Waste Management Authority issued a statement following the issue that arose, clarifying that there is no question of any sanitary landfill disposal taking place at local waste sites.
The authority stressed that the management of animal by-products within the European Union is governed by a strict regulatory framework.
“Animal by-products that pose a risk to public health (Categories 1 and 2) must be incinerated or co-processed in approved high-temperature incineration facilities, ensuring the complete destruction of pathogenic microorganisms and the protection of the environment,” stated the authority’s president, Nikos Georgakos.
