CORFU. Significant update regarding a mobile phone antenna installation in Gouvia, after the regional environmental and planning authority got involved.
In an official document sent to the residents who had lodged the complaint — and copied to the provider and the relevant authorities — the Regional Authority notes that the installation requires the opinion of the Corfu Architectural Council, as stipulated by current legislation.
The same document stresses that, under environmental regulations, mobile phone base stations must blend aesthetically and structurally with their surroundings, taking into account the architectural features of nearby buildings and the overall character of the area.
The residents and business owners of Gouvia, who had filed a complaint citing aesthetic and functional degradation of the environment, have expressed satisfaction with the Regional Authority’s action. They now await further steps from the competent authorities, including the process of modifying the installation permit.
