CORFU. The Federation of Greek Seamen (PNO) has decided to participate in the strike called by the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) on Thursday, 14 December. The Corfu Seamen’s Union have yet to decide whether they will also join the strike.
The strike will begin at 00:01 on Thursday and end at 24:00.
The Federation announced that, “Yet again, unfortunately, the problems that the seamen are facing not only remain unresolved, but on the contrary, continue to grow and have been exacerbated by the new preconditions, regulations and cuts demanded in the third memorandum.”
They also added that, “The dissolution of the Seamen’s Pension Fund (NAT) and the seizure of its property, the dismemberment of the organic synthesis of passenger vessels, the degrading of pensions and increasing unemployment – all these issues cannot remain unresolved.”
The Corfu Seamen’s Union board will meet and then make an announcement as to whether or not they will go along with the PNO decision.
