Today΄s general strike

Opposition to the provisions of the labour bill also brought the people of Corfu out into the streets. Since early this morning, strike committees have blocked access to the Maraslio Town Hall to prevent strikebreakers from entering.This development cannot be seen as unrelated to the fines imposed on the administration of the Workers Centre for putting up posters during the previous strike.

Later, the strikers gathered on the pedestrian street outside the Workers Centre, where representatives of the striking unions and the president of the Workers Centre, Stamatis Pelais, gave speeches.

Immediately afterwards, the planned demonstration began on the town’s main streets.
