CORFU. ELME union has announced that they will meet up at 10:30 at the high schools and take part in the rally at 11:00 at the Workers Centre.

(Union Announcement) The bill introducing the 13-hour workday brings yet another deep rupture in the erosion of working and free time — in human life itself. It goes hand in hand with efforts to silence and repress workers in the public sector, either directly or “preventively.” It is complemented by the dismantling of collective rights and the right to strike, paving the way for deep restructurings in the public sector, under the new disciplinary framework that has already been voted into law.

They want workers drained by 13-hour workdays in the private sector, and teachers, doctors, nurses, and public employees struggling to cope with understaffing, outdated infrastructure, and low wages — and to remain silent about all of it.

The 13-hour work law directly concerns the public sector as well, since every anti-labour measure introduced in the private sector becomes a forerunner for similar measures in the public sector.

Demands

  • Stable and permanent jobs for all! Jobs with rights!

  • Abolition of the “flexible” organisation of working time and all forms of precarious employment.

  • Substantial increases in wages and pensions so that we can live with dignity from our work. Reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries. Sectoral Collective Labour Agreements with a drastic reduction of working hours.

  • Money for wages, pensions, health, and education — not for imperialist military armaments, for the slaughterhouses of war, and the profits of the few! Immediate measures against high prices and for the protection of working-class household incomes.

  • No involvement of our country in the carnage of war!

  • Protection of people’s homes! Full legal protection of the primary residence of working-class households and a ban on foreclosures of first homes.
