CORFU. The total illegal financial gain from the thefts is estimated to exceed 120,000 euros.

Police caught a gang responsible for burglaries from homes. Three individuals were arrested, aged 22, 37, and 43.

Following an operation carried out on Wednesday, August 6, with the assistance of the Crime Prevention and Suppression Team and a police sniffer dog, the three men were arrested and brought to appear before the Corfu Misdemeanor Prosecutor.

A felony case file was filed against them, as well as against a 33-year-old man also accused in the case, for aggravated theft. According to police, a 22-year-old woman is also implicated in the case.

Police stated that the gang, from the beginning of the summer, operating with varying compositions and roles depending on the case, identified "targets" in remote communities and holiday areas. After confirming that the residents were absent, they would enter the homes either by breaking in or through unsecured balcony doors or windows, and steal mainly valuables and cash.

To carry out their illegal activities, the gang used "operational" vehicles for short periods of time, in order to make detection more difficult.

So far, the police investigation has linked them to 15 cases of theft, most of which occurred in areas of North Corfu, while their total illegal financial gain is estimated to exceed €120,000.

During searches conducted at a house, in vehicles, and on the suspects themselves, a large quantity of jewellery was found and seized, along with €12,100 in cash and other items.

The preliminary investigation into the case was conducted by the Corfu Subdivision for Crime Suppression and Investigation, during which two vehicles used in the gang’s illegal activities were also seized.
