Experts΄ report for enhancement of Municipal Theatre delivered to Central Corfu Municipality
CORFU. The report was funded by the Ionian Islands Regional Authority.
(Ionian Islands Regional Authority) The experts report titled "Integration of the Core Principles of the 'New European Bauhaus' in the Restoration Plan of the Corfu Municipal Theatre" is now available to the Ionian Islands Regional Authority. The report was completed by the company "New Architecture EE", represented by Professor Yiannis Aesopos, an expert in Architectural and Urban Design at the University of Patras and a specialised expert for the European Commission on New European Bauhaus matters.
Funded by resources from the "Ionian Islands 2021-27" programme, the report was developed within the framework of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy for Corfu Old Town, which includes the "Corfu Municipal Theatre Restoration Study" initiative.
The report enhances the studies for restoring both the theatre and its surrounding area, incorporating the values of the New European Bauhaus—namely aesthetics, sustainability and accessibility/inclusivity/participation.
The final version of the experts report also took into account proposals and observations made during a prior consultation process with relevant stakeholders affected by the Corfu Municipal Theatre restoration project.
Regarding the handling of the report, the Special Management Service of the Ionian Islands Programme received it on behalf of the Ionian Islands Regional Authority and subsequently forwarded it to the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands. The report will be utilised for launching the necessary studies required for the restoration project.
It includes proposals for interior interventions within the theatre, as well as additional interventions in the surrounding area and the roof structure.
