CORFU. A specialised expert has taken on the task of completing the existing studies. There will be two rounds of consultations with stakeholders and those who use the facility. The timeline is four months. After that, the project for the upgrade will need to be put out to tender.

(Central Corfu Municipal Press Office) Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos and Regional Governor Yiannis Trepeklis held a meeting with Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at the University of Patras, Yiannis Aisopos, who will serve as an expert for the EU in completing the upgrade studies for the Municipal Theatre.

A meeting followed at the Municipal Theatre with the participation of Deputy Mayors and Deputy Regional Governors, officials from the Municipality and the Regional Authority, representatives from the Special Management Service of the Ionian Islands Operational Programme, the Monitoring Committee, the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), and the Association of Architects, where the key axes for the reconstruction and upgrade of the building were discussed.

The report of documentation, conclusions, and proposals by Professor Yiannis Aisopos is being funded by the Ionian Islands Regional Authority and is expected to be completed within a four-month timeframe, based on the principles of the New European Bauhaus, namely aesthetics, sustainability, accessibility and active participation of citizens, users of the space, and scientific bodies. The main principle of the New European Bauhaus focuses on the "opening" of the building to the town and its residents, as well as its connection to other parts (e.g., other buildings and public spaces surrounding it), traffic conditions in the area, etc.

In this context, two rounds of consultations will take place, including workshops and the mapping of supplementary interventions aimed at integrating the theatre into the broader cultural, social and economic life of the town.

The next step will be the completion and enrichment of the specifications text for the tender package of studies for the restoration of the building and its surrounding area, which is expected to be included in the Ionian Islands Operational Programme 2021-2027.
