Case of fraud against an elderly woman

CORFU. Two people have been arrested.
After a report was received by the police authorities on Monday, 10/02, stating that an elderly woman from Central Corfu had been deceived by unknown individuals who took €1,500 from her, police began an investigation to identify the perpetrators.
As announced by the Ionian Islands Regional Police, following investigations, data analysis, and the use of intelligence information, two individuals—a 34-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman—were identified, located, and arrested on Tuesday afternoon,11/02, in Corfu Town.
The case unfolded as follows:
An unidentified person called the victim, pretending to be a doctor. Using the pretext that a relative of hers required urgent surgery after being involved in a road accident, he convinced her to hand over €1,500 at a prearranged meeting. The money was given to the 34-year-old, who was in a car with the 26-year-old as a passenger.
During the investigation, searches were conducted in a residence, in the presence of a judicial officer, and on the suspects themselves. Authorities found and confiscated the €1,500 taken from the elderly woman, which was returned to her, as well as two mobile phones.
The Corfu Subdivision for Crime Investigation and Detection conducted the preliminary investigation, during which the vehicle used in the suspects' illegal activity was also seized.
The two individuals, facing charges of fraud by complicity, will be brought before the Corfu Prosecutor’s Office.
