CORFU. The Lawyers΄ Association sent a new letter to the president of the Hellenic Land Registry, Stelios Sakaretsios, requesting an extension of the deadline for completing the incomplete land registry declarations for Corfu, beyond January 30, 2025.

The letter highlights the following:
"... there are still objective reasons that hinder the completion of tens of thousands of incomplete declarations for Corfu within this timeframe, making it, without a doubt, unreasonable and insufficient.

The supporting documents required to complete the incomplete declarations cannot be collected by January 31, 2025, as certificates from the Corfu Court of First Instance (due to thousands of applications and extensive backlogs) are already being issued for April 2025 (see indicative attached proof of applications). Additionally, the publication of wills is scheduled at the Corfu Court of First Instance for May 2025, the creation of titles is extremely time-consuming for the overburdened notaries, property surveying faces similar delays with the overburdened engineers, and the transcription of titles, as well as the issuance of certificates from the Ionian Islands Land Registry Office, is a matter of months.

Thus, for objective and not subjective reasons, it is clear that completing the incomplete declarations by January 31, 2025, is unfeasible. This will result in the significant risk of thousands of declarations being rejected and a drastic reduction in the cadastral coverage rate for Corfu, which we believe is not desirable for anyone.

In light of these circumstances, we request an extension for completing the incomplete cadastral declarations for Corfu. We believe that for this extension to be reasonable, the deadline should be extended to at least September 30, 2025."
