CORFU. "Insects, such as bees and ladybirds, are essential for pollination and the preservation of biodiversity, which directly affects the cultivation of our food."

On the occasion of World Food and Nutrition Day, our Healthy Little Eaters continued their ecological activities by building an insect hotel. This activity aimed to help children better understand the living conditions of insects, their crucial role in nature and the importance of protecting them.

Insects, such as bees and ladybirds, are essential for pollination and maintaining biodiversity, which directly impacts our food production. By creating a 'home' for these creatures, children cultivate empathy for the world around them, realising that all living beings, big and small, have their own role in the ecosystem.

Before starting the construction, we took time to learn more about insects and their environment, using our own educational materials in English. The children became familiar with the relevant vocabulary and watched videos from National Geographic and the Discovery Channel, which helped them better understand the importance of insects for nature.

Through this activity, the children not only gain knowledge but also develop environmental awareness and empathy, learning to care for the planet and the creatures that live on it. Building the insect hotel gives them the opportunity to practically apply what they’ve learned and to connect theory with practice.
