CORFU. The proposal concerning the dissolution of DIADEYAK is returning to today΄s municipal council meeting.

DIADEYAK is heading for a confrontation with the government's choices regarding water management. Thus, its president, Achilleas Mazis, is once again submitting, with full documentation, his request for the dissolution of the intermunicipal company, remaining faithful to the doctrine, 'each Municipality and its own DEYA,' which was first put forward by Mahimaris and the Municipality of North Corfu. And when is this happening? At a time when, as has repeatedly leaked to the press, the draft law for the establishment of 'regional' water management authorities is ready. This would unify the intermunicipal services into one entity. Moreover, it is expected that this unification won't be limited to water management!

Meropi Ydraiou had requested and received a comprehensive viability study, totaling 170 pages, for a DEYA within the boundaries of the Central Corfu Municipality. Most importantly, as mentioned, the viability of such a company, in contrast to its current state, is due to the fact that only in the town and surrounding areas is there consistent collection of outstanding payments for water consumption!

This argument was brought to the attention of Mayor Poulimenos a year ago, before the new Municipal Authorities took office, and this point was reiterated at least twice more over the course of the current year.

It was even included in the agenda of a municipal council meeting, which was cancelled due to the Thessaloniki International Fair. Now it returns to the council session, today, Wednesday, 2 October.
