15 arrests in Corfu on Friday night
CORFU. Police checked 429 vehicles and 619 individuals in the Ionian Islands, leading to 27 arrests.
Between 18:00 on Friday, 29 September and the early hours of Saturday, 30 September, police in the Ionian Islands checked 429 vehicles and 619 individuals in the Ionian Islands, leading to 27 arrests - 15 in Corfu, 7 in Zakynthos, 3 in Cephalonia and 2 in Lefkada - for the following offences:
- 1 for possession of drugs
- 6 for illegal residency
- 1 for driving under the influence
- 2 for playing music outwith the times allowed
- 1 for noise pollution
- 1 for disturbing the peace
- 3 catering establishments for lack of proper health certificates
- 12 for driving without a licence
There were 187 driving offences, including the following:
- 3 driving under the influence
- 43 speeding
- 41 not wearing seat belts
- 68 not wearing crash helmet
- 1 using mobile phone whilst driving
- 2 running red lights
- 15 without driving licences
- 1 with uninsured vehicle
- 2 driving on wrong side of the road
- 11 without MOT
plus 67 other violations.
28 vehicles were immobilised for driving under the influence, driving without a licence, not wearing crash helmets and not having MOT.
