90 arrests in March for driving without licence and DUI

CORFU. March data for road accidents and driving offences.
The Ionian Islands Regional Police Department has released data for road accidents and driving offences in Corfu, Lefkada, Cephalonia and Zakynthos in March, 2023.
Road accidents
There were two road accidents during this period, compared to nine in March 2022.
- No fatal accidents, compared to one in 2022
- No accidents with serious inuries, compared to one in 2022
- Two accidents with minor injuries, compared to seven in 2022
During this period, two people were injured, compared to 13 in March, 2022.
- No deaths, compared to one in 2022
- Noone seriously injured, compared to one in 2022
- Two people suffered minor injuries, compared to 11 in 2022
Police said that, according to their data, the main reasons for road accidents in general were the following:
- Driver is distracted
- Violating right of way
- Not maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles
- Speeding
- Running red lights
- Driving on the wrong side of the road
Police checks
There were 2,244 driving offences in March, 2023, including the following:
- 52 driving under the influence
There were also 43 cases of parking illegally in Special Needs spaces.
There were 90 arrests - 74 for driving without a licence and 16 for driving under the influence.
