CORFU. By a majority vote Central Corfu Municipal Council approved the increase requested by the transport company due to the increase in the cost of fuel.

Yesterday Central Corfu Municipal Council approved by a majority vote to approve the request from the waste transportation company ENACT to adjust the invoice for December 2022 by 30% due to the increase in the cost of fuel.

Municipal councillors Fani Tsimpouli and Dimitris Theodotos from Yiannis Trepeklis party Kerkyra Na Zis voted against. Fani Tsimpouli said that according to the contract, 15% of the increase should be borne by the contractor and so the Municipality should only have to cover the other 15%. Deputy Mayor for Cleaning Services Yiannis Seremetis replied that according to the decision of the Decentralised Administration, the municipality is obliged to cover the full amount of the increase - i.e. 30%.

Fuel consumption

Dimitris Theodotos said that there was a significant divergence in the calculation of fuel consumed by the vehicles. The calculation should be for 30 litres/100km for a full load whereas the the report uses ver double that - 65 litres/100km. He said that that part of the report needs to be checked again as there are guidelines from the Ministry of Transport and Communications as to how fuel consumption should be calculated.

Spyros Neratzis put forward his own proposal indicating that the increase should be calculated as much less than that requested by ENACT. His proposal received two votes.

In the end the proposal from Deputy Mayor Yiannis Seremetis was passed with 15 votes for and 7 against.
