CORFU. The required deposit of €192,000 has been paid.

The former Aktaion Cafe in the Upper Square was officially transferred today to the new owner, the Stavros Ioannou Group.

The lease contract was signed this morning in Marasleio Town Hall in the presence of the Deputy Mayor for Finance Giorgos Pantelios, the company’s representative and its legal advisor Evaggelos Nakos and the deposit of €192,000, equal to one year's rent, was paid.

It is worth noting that all new tenants who claim to use municipal properties are now obliged under contract to pay a deposit, so that the Central Corfu Municipality does not lose money from rents not being paid.

The procedure for the former Aktaion Cafe has now been completed and it will be in the hands of the new lessor for six years with the possibility to extend it for six more years.

According to the company’s legal advisor Mr. Nakos, the first rent (€16,000) is expected to be paid in the coming days.

The Aktaion Cafe, which was run by businessman Vassilis Sozos, has existed in its present form for 27 years. On 31 October 2021, the business closed because the contract ended and 8 months later it was open for offers once again. The property will be used exclusively as a catering establishment.

However, according to Mr. Nakos, work on the new establishment will be carried out slowly, while there is no specific time it should start operating under the new management and the new name it will receive.
