Appeal against Archbishop Nektarios not-guilty verdict to be heard on Thursday

CORFU. Following a postponement, the Prosecutor΄s appeal against the court΄s not-guilty verdict regarding the violation of pandemic measures on Palm Sunday will be heard.

Corfu Archbishop Nektarios will once again appear in court on Thursday 9 June for the postponed appeal against the court΄s not-guilty verdict regarding the violation of pandemic measures on Palm Sunday.

Central Corfu Municipal Council President Dimitris Metallinos and Events Supervisor Fotis Skourtis are also defendants in the same case.

The Prosecutor lodged the appeal regarding the violation of pandemic measures and exceeding the maximum number of attendees in the Church of St. Spyridon on Palm Sunday, 2020.

The court brought a not-guilty verdict, whereas the prosecution had asked that the Archbishop be found guilty with mitigating circumstances.

The Corfu Three-Member Misdemeanours Court accepted the defence's request for a postponement due to ill-health on 13 January and a new date for the hearing of the appeal was set for 9 June.

The defence lawyers for the Archbishop are Yiannis Kontos and Spyros Christofilos and Dimitris Metallinos and Fotis Skourtis are being represented by the Municipal lawyer Akis Desegrinis.
