CORFU. There will be a protest gathering outside Maraslio at 10:00 – They demand that local authority employees working on temporary contracts be made permanent.

The local authority employees union (POE-OTA) will hold a national 24-hour strike on Tuesday 24 May.

Their main demand is that all local authority employees working on temporary contracts be made permanent and that the ban on recruitment of permanent staff be lifted, so that the Municipalities can cover the huge gaps they have in human resources.

POE-OTA's representatives will seek a meeting with the Ministry of Interior and the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE), making it clear to them that the understaffing of local authority services is a major problem not only for the remaining employees, who can no longer meet the increased demands, but also for the Greek society in general, since due to the lack of staff, people are being served with delay.

POE-OTA is determined to put an end to this situation and to defend in every way the public and social character of local authority services that some people are using in order to promote private business interests. In case they meet with the Ministry of Interior and KEDE, they will make their intentions known.
