Ionian Islands police checks - 191 driving offences

Between 18:00 on 30 April and 02:00 on 1 May police in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada carried out checks for the following:

- Theft and burglary
- Dangerous driving
- Violations of regulations at catering establishments
- Drug dealing
- Illegal immigrants

25 people were arrested (15 Greeks and 10 foreign nationals) - 19 in Zakynthos, 4 in Corfu and 2 in Cephalonia - for the following offences:

- 16 for driving without a licence
- 3 for working without health certificate
- 2 for illegal residency
- 2 for solicitation
- 1 for driving under the influence
- 1 for weapons offence

There were 191 driving offences, including the following:

- 28 speeding
- 4 driving under the influence
- 7 not wearing seat belts
- 14 not wearing crash helmet
- 1 using mobile phone whilst driving
- 17 without driving licences
- 2 uninsured
- 9 without MOT
