25th March anniversary parade in Corfu Town

CORFU. The Government was represented by the General Secretary for Sport Giorgos Mavrotas.
The celebrations for the 25 March anniversary of independence began with a service at the Spilaiotissis Metropolitan Church. The Doxology was led by Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands and was followed by a formal presentation by the principal of Corfu 4th Junior High School Eleni Vousolinou.
There was then a memorial service and wreaths were laid at the Hero Monument. The following laid wreaths: the government representative; Ionian Islands Regional Governor; Corfu MPs; Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Mayor; Ionian University Dean; Regional Education Director; Regional Police Chief; Regional Fire Chief; Armed Forces Veterans Association President; Red Cross Corfu Branch President.
The government was represented by the General Secretary for Sport Giorgos Mavrotas.
This was followed by a memorial service at the statue of Ioannis Capodistrias and the National Poet Dionysios Solomos, where wreaths were also laid.

The celebrations culminated with the parade along Agoniston Polytechniou in which the following took part: representatives of the War Disabled; students; school pupils; guides and scouts; the armed forces; police and coastguard; fire department and border guards.
The parade was accompanied by philharmonic bands.
