Schools lay wreaths for 25 March national anniversary

CORFU. Talks at schools on the significance of 25th March.
25th March celebrations have begun with speeches about the significance of the national anniversary and the decoration of primary and secondary schools with flags.
This afternoon, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Hero monument in Corfu Town, with the participation of students, pupils, scouts, and guides, led by educators and scout leaders, as well as an honorary contingent consisting of university students, school pupils, scouts, guides and the Philharmonic Band.
This day is a landmark for Hellenism, honouring the heroic struggle of the Greeks for freedom in 1821. The wreaths laid symbolise gratitude and devotion to the memory of the heroes who sacrificed themselves for the country’s independence.
The wreath-laying ceremony concluded with a minute of silence in memory of the fallen and the playing of the National Anthem.
