ASTAKOS. The autopsies revealed that the death of the drivers was caused by burning.
Eight bodies have now been recovered from the Euroferry Olympia with three persons still missing. The search operation is continuing on board the vessel, which is moored at Astakos Port.
Autopsies were completed yesterday on four of the bodies recovered from the ship and the medical examiner stated that they had been burned completely or died from burns.
In a statement to the AMNA Agency, Angeliki Tsiola, head of the forensic medicine service in Patras, said, "Yesterday and today the autopsies were completed on the four bodies that had been brought to Patras and the cause of death differed in each of the four cases."
"Some bodies were burned beyond recognition and others had burns," she said. "One body was identified and has been released to the family but the other three are unrecognisable."
