CORFU. The Municipality is still waiting for the preparation of the file by a sworn valuer, in order to determine the monthly rent of Aktaion Cafe.

The historic ‘Zisimos’ Cafe has been handed over to the new lessee since last December.

Deputy Mayor for Finance Giorgos Pantelios told Enimerosi that the new owner of the cafe, the ‘Nikos Michos & Co.’ company, has already paid a €39,000 guarantee and two rents, while the monthly rent is €15,050.

The new owners wish to open the cafe at Easter. However, due to the long delivery time of the equipment, it is considered a difficult target. It should be noted that the owner company, which also owns a number of other cafes, was the only bidder in the auction conducted by the Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands Municipality last September for the lease of the cafe.

According to sources, the owner company is waiting for the completion of the architectural study, in order to submit it to the Archaeological Service for approval.

The Aktaion Cafe

Meanwhile, the Municipality is still waiting for the preparation of the file by a sworn valuer, in order to determine what the monthly rent is and proceed with the auction of yet another cafe - the Aktaion Cafe.

Mr. Pantelios stated that once this process is completed, the Economic Committee will meet and determine the day of the auction for the lease of the cafe. It was not only a cafe, and later a restaurant, but also a welcoming venue for artistic events, presentations and promotions.

Bidders

According to Mr. Pantelios, there is a lot of interest shown from potential bidders who wish to get their hands on the cafe. It remains, however, to be seen if this will also be the case during the submission of bids, as the situation could change – as it had happened with the Mon Repos beach.

It should be reminded that the Aktaion Cafe closed on 31 October, as the contract for the property ended and the premises had been emptied, since according to the law, the property must be empty during the auction. However, as Mr. Pantelios explained, amongst the contractual obligations of the new owners is now also the payment of the guarantee, so that the Municipality does not lose money from unpaid rents.
