Café ‘Zisimos’ reopening after receiving approval from Ephorate of Antiquities

CORFU. The company’s statement on the resolution of the issue and its thanks to the authorities involved.

The café “Zisimos” will reopen its doors on Wednesday, May 20, following a brief suspension of operations.

As the business announced in a social media post, Corfu Ephorate of Antiquities issued its approval after receiving an explanatory document requested from and provided by the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands.

The management of the business notes that this process was carried out with a focus on protecting this historic town site and expresses hope for future cooperation with the Ephorate of Antiquities, with the shared goal of highlighting and revitalising the location. At the same time, it stresses that its aim remains to operate the space with respect for its history and identity, offering a meeting point for both residents and visitors of Corfu.

In the same announcement, the business expresses its warm thanks to all those who contributed to finding a solution for the continued operation of the café. Among them, it thanks civil engineer Petros Velianitis, municipal employees Makis Dimoulas and Stavros Dovanas, the deputy mayors Spiros Argyros, Nikos Vradhis, and Spiros Chalkiopoulos, as well as the Mayor of Central Corfu, Stefanos Poulimenos.

Thanks are also extended to the Deputy Minister of Shipping Stefanos Gikas, former Mayor of Corfu Meropi Ydraiou, municipal councillor Takis Metallinos, former Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands Rodi Kratsa, as well as Angela Gerekou, who, according to the announcement, is preparing the file for “Zisimos” to be included in the list of Historic Cafés of Europe.

Finally, the business thanks the people of the Ministry of Culture and Minister Lina Mendoni for their interest, as well as the local media that brought attention to the issue.
