CORFU. For the first time the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality has set up a network of collection points for electrical and electronic equipment in all its districts.

The items being collected are lamps, ink cartridges and electronic and electrical appliances, which members of the public can now deposit at special containers that have been placed at all the municipal buildings in all the districts including the Diapontia Islands.

On Monday 25 January the last of the special containers were placed and there is now a complete network for the separate collection of electronic and electrical equipment - for the first time in all the districts of the Municipality.

The setting up of the containers was done by the Cleansing Service, which will also be collecting the items. The Deputy Mayor for European Programmes and Development Panayiota Tzanne and consultant Viktoras Dimoulis were present as the project is part of the Municipality's responsibilities in the European Commission's 100 Intelligent Cities Challenge, where the Municipality has declared its main project as 'Waste Management & Circular Economy'.

In this way, members of the public can, for the first time, deposit their electronic and electrical waste in an environmentally-friendly and safe way at any of the 10 special containers for electronic and electrical equipment, 10 containers for ink cartridges and toner and 20 containers for lamps that have been placed at the following municipal and community buildings:
