Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos believes that this is the most comprehensive proposal ever submitted to the municipal council and is the result of months of study and collaboration with relevant bodies.
Mr. Nerantzis, who introduced the issue, spoke for about half an hour saying that the fee will be determined based on the square metres of the property and not on the volume of waste produced, noting that the current legislation is not fair.
Additionally, the revenues must equal the expenses, and the fee will be adjusted accordingly each year.
Furthermore, the cost for the transportation and management of waste will be covered by the municipality's utility fees, and he referred to a 2019 Government Gazette that regulates this.
During his final remarks, the Mayor said, "We want a strong municipality... a healthy municipality with improved finances and noticeable improvement everywhere." For all this, money is needed, he added, in order to "change the situation."
