Hotel employees strike and demonstrations planned for the Prime Minister΄s visit

CORFU. A fighting start to the season for Corfu hotel employees. There was a protest gathering outside the Employment Office (OAED) on Wednesday morning and a strike and demonstrations are being planned for the PM΄s visit.

There was a protest demonstration outside the OAED offices from hotel employee union members. They are demanding that they be paid unemployment benefit for May and receive benefits for the winter until re-employed in 2021.

According to the union, from 1 to 7 July applications can be made online (https://supportemployees.services.gov.gr/) by employees at hotels and tourist accommodation and tourist coach drivers to be included in the support programme.

Those who do not have access to the system or cannot do it themselves or with an accountant can visit the union's office during morning hours at the Workers' Centre with their ID, Taxis Net password and IBAN number. They can also carry out the necessary procedure between 18:00 and 21:00 at Lefkimmi Junior High, Acharavi Town Hall and KEP in Argyrades.

From Monday's meeting



The union board and the boards of the business organisations held an open meeting on Monday evening. The following were decided at the meeting:

Open meetings of tourism employees -
Saturday 4 July at 18:30 outside Sandy Hotel in Linia and at 20:00 outside Marbella Hotel in Agios Ioannis Peristeron.
Sunday 5 July at 11:00 outside Apollo Palace Hotel in Messonghi and 19:30 outside Mediterraneo Hotel in Ermones.
Monday 6 July at 20:00 outside Roda Beach Hotel.

At these meetings information will be given regarding the demonstration planned for 11 July and measures will be taken to cancel the unaccountability of employers at the operational hotels.

A strike and demonstrations will be held on 11 July for the Prime Minister's visit to Corfu.
