CORFU. The former Regional Governor responded to Ms. Ydraiou΄s statement: "Ms. Ydraiou should give the true facts and give credit where credit is due - local authorities and public administrations carry on from where the previous ones left off..."
The leader of 'ANASA' and former Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos issued statement in response to the statement from Mayor of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Meropi Ydraiou regarding the Giallinas Mansion.
The former Governor expressed the unpleasant surprise he felt on hearing what Ms. Ydraiou had to say and accused the Mayor of "blatant party politics" and "taking the credit for works that don't belong to the present Municipal and Regional Authorities".
Mr Galiatsatos' statement regarding the renovation of the Giallinas Mansion:
"The press release from the Mayor of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Meropi Ydraiou regarding the Angelos Giallinas Art Gallery, which is a protected building, came as an unpleasant surprise to us. We didn't expect such blatant party politics from the Mayor, who is deliberately taking credit for works that don't belong to the present Municipal and Regional Authorities.
Let us remind her of the following:
- The decision on 27/3/2018 of the former Ionian Islands Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos to include the project 'Renovation and reuse of the protected building Angelos Giallinas Art Gallery in Corfu' in the Ionian Islands 2014-2020 Programme (Category - Protection of the Environment and Sustainable Development) with a budget of 5,036,260 Euros.
The approved project was to 'renovate and reopen the protected building belonging to the Angelos Giallinas Foundation'.
When the work is completed the ground floor of the gallery will be used for educational and commercial activities, the first floor will house an exhibition of works by Angelos Giallinas, the second floor will be a multipurpose area and the outbuilding will be used mainly for administrative purposes and storage space.
Corfu Municipality is responsible for the work and the Giallinas Foundation will be responsible for its operation when completed.
Completion date: 31/12/2021
- On 12/6/2019 the former Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos signed the cultural development agreement between the Ionian Islands Regional Administration, the Ministry for Culture & Sport, Corfu Municipality and the Angelos Giallinas Art Gallery Foundation for the renovation and reuse of the protected building as the next step towards the completion of the project which had been neglected for years and left to deteriorate through time and apathy.
- The Angelos Giallinas Art Gallery Foundation presented the former Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos with an award for his "significant contribution to including the renovation of the historical building in the ESPA Programme" at the opening of a retrospective exhibition of the works of the great Corfu artist Angelos Giallinas on 26 July, 2019 - 80 years after his death
The former Mayor of Corfu Kostas Nikolouzos also played a significant role by prioritising the renovation work - but Ms. Ydraiou doesn't even give him a mention.
On the contrary, she gave warm thanks to the present Ionian Islands Regional Governor! Apart from the fact that they belong to the same political party, why is Ms. Ydraiou thanking Ms Kratsa? Can she enlighten us?
Ms. Ydraiou should immediately give the true facts and give credit where credit is due - local authorities and public administrations carry on from where the previous ones left off. We await her response."
