CORFU. DEDDIE Director Nikos Sofianos talked to Enimerosi about progress with repairing damage done by the bad weather.
DEDDIE is gradually repairing damage to the power supply network in Corfu and the Diapontia Islands caused by the bad weather.
Nikos Sofianos said that it is expected that, as long as the weather doesn't deteriorate - and it seems to be improving - most, if not all, of the problems with electricity supply on the island will have been sorted today.
"Electricity supply has been restored on the islands of Mathraki and Othoni. There is a small problem with a substation on Othoni but that is expected to have been dealt with very soon and so power supply will be back to normal," said the DEDDIE Director. He went on to say that there was a third wave of bad weather in Corfu last night, which not only made things difficult for the DEDDIE crews but also created new problems, especially in the north.
"The problems are gradually being resolved and our crews are working flat out until electricity supply has been restored everywhere," Mr. Sofianos told Enimerosi. "We have six crews - extra crews have come from the mainland - evaluating the problems and dealing with them in the north and south of the island."
He added, "I believe that things are progressing satisfactorily and most of the problems have already been fixed - as I said, the Diapontia Islands, which were hit hard by the weather, have had their supply restored and certainly by the end of the day we will have dealt with the problems caused by the bad weather that hit the island."
