16 Aug 2019 / 07:00

CORFU. A 40-meter traditional wooden ship from Qatar will be docking at Corfu Port on Sunday 18 August, as previously reported by Enimerosi.

There will be a welcome event at 19:00 on Sunday 18th when the Al Mubaraki docks at Corfu Old Port, where it will remain until Tuesday 20th when it will continue its journey to Saranda.

The boat will be open to the public and the 16 crew members will show them round the vessel which is a faithful recreation of traditional Qatari sailboats whilst promoting the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Al Mubaraki with its 16 Qatari seamen is on a 4-month journey - Fath Al Khair 4 - covering 4,000 nautical miles and visiting 11 ports. It has already visited Thessaloniki, Mykonos and Athens and is now sailing to Corfu. Following Corfu it will head for Saranda and Croatia before finishing its journey at ports in Southern and Northern Italy.

The unique 40-metre boat was built in 1983 and combines Qatar's maritime heritage with modern maritime technology. It is being used by the Qatar Cultural Organisation 'Katara' to promote the FIFA 2022 World Cup on a 2-year journey to the Arabian Gulf countries, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean.

Whilst moored at the ports the Al Mubaraki will be open to the public.
